EOS Amsterdam To Help WAX Upgrade To EOSIO 2.0
EOS Amsterdam CTO, cc32d9, recently submitted a new proposal in the new WAX worker proposal system. The proposal received enough votes to meet the threshold very quickly! We will explain the proposal, and what this means for WAX, below.
The proposal
The proposal aims to support the WAX ecosystem in upgrading to EOSIO 2.0, the latest version of the EOSIO software. More specifically, the proposal includes the following:
WAX core software is based on Block.one’s EOSIO core, with an addition of an intrinsic function for RSA signature verification. The current WAX core release is based on EOSIO version 1.8.4.
Block.one is developing the EOSIO software at a high pace, and the current EOSIO 2.0.x version is bringing a number of groundbreaking features. One of the major improvements is the introduction of a new virtual machine, which is capable of executing smart contracts much faster than the 1.8 software. In addition, a number of other important improvements in other parts of the EOSIO software have been introduced.
The proposal aims to port the WAX-specific additions to the newest EOSIO release. The work consists of the following steps:
- Merging the WAX software into EOSIO 2.0.
- Consulting with the Block.one developer team in regards to the best way to guarantee long-term compatibility.
- Running tests in the WAX testnet:
a) as an API node;
b) as a BP node.
At the moment, smart contracts in the WAX testnet are not using the RSA signatures, so we will set up the RSA test contracts in the testnet as well. - Running tests on a WAX mainnet API node.
- Assisting in the deployment on BP nodes on the WAX mainnet.
- Long-term support for future releases.
With the proposal being accepted, we will ensure the WAX network will be running steadily on the newest EOSIO 2.0 software, ensuring WAX will be using the best and latest blockchain technology software available.
