EOS Amsterdam To Host The Light API
The EOSIO Light API is one of the most-used APIs in the whole EOSIO ecosystem, which is why we are excited to announce that EOS Amsterdam will be covering all hosting costs of the Light API, starting next month. In this announcement, we will further elaborate this decision and what it means for the community.
About the Light API
The Light API is an infrastructure service that allows users to look up various information about EOSIO accounts, such as:
- Searching for accounts by keys;
- Finding all token balances for an account;
- Displaying REX balance for an account;
- Displaying all CPU and NET delegations made by an account or made by others;
- Bulk retrieval of all holder balances for a token.
The API is used by the Scatter wallet, major block explorers, and various other EOSIO projects, and it has always been (and will continue to be) available for free to everyone.
Why we are funding the Light API
As we see the Light API as an important part of the EOSIO ecosystem, we want to ensure it will be available in the future, and we see it as our duty as a Block Producer on various EOSIO chains to provide valuable tools, such as the Light API, to the community.
Up until the end of June 2020, hosting costs have been covered by Scatter for EOS and Telos, EOS Amsterdam has been hosting the API for many other public blockchains, and Crypnox has been hosting the API for the Jungle testnet.
As of next month, EOS Amsterdam will take over these costs from Scatter, in order to become the primary service partner for all Light API users.
